Presented in partnership with The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts
In 1920, the passage of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution granted American women the right to vote. One hundred years later, the San Antonio Symphony commemorates the campaign for Women’s Suffrage and the larger struggle for gender equality through the lens of important women in music.
Get to know and hear the works of several prominent women composers and how they overcame the obstacles of their time to find a voice and a significant place in music history. As a cross-curricular extension, have students participate in our related Paint to Music Contest – winning artwork will be projected onscreen at the concerts!
