Assistant Principal/Second Trombone
James Seymour, a Columbus, OH native, was immersed in music from an early age through the British brass band tradition, a style particularly prominent in the central Ohio area, along with band and orchestra. James was a member of the Central Ohio Brass Band (COBB) in his high school years, and competed at the North American Brass Band Association championships multiple times as both a soloist and a member of COBB.
James then moved to Chicago to pursue his undergraduate degree at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, studying with members of the Chicago, San Francisco and Detroit Symphony Orchestras, among others. During his time at Northwestern, James performed regularly with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
And before moving to San Antonio, James spent a year pursuing his master’s degree at The Colburn School in Los Angeles, studying with former principal trombone of the San Francisco Symphony, Mark Lawrence. James has spent summers as a fellow at the Aspen Music Festival and School and the Music Academy of the West.
