The San Antonio Symphony is excited to announce its third season at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts led by Music Director Sebastian Lang-Lessing. The Symphony shines the spotlight on 14 awe-inspiring Classics Series concerts; a Mozart winter festival; and six eclectic Pops Series concerts offering a wide range of talent—fantastic pianists, superb singers, world-class violinists, a Rock ’n’ Roll legend, a sublime guitarist, high flying aerialists, and more —all contributing towards an unforgettable 2016-2017 season. classic_highlight_ead-1024x483-revMaestro Lang-Lessing will open the season and the Classics series on September 16, 2016 with Orff’s powerful and climactic Carmina Burana, featuring the Symphony Mastersingers, the Children’s Chorus of San Antonio and terrific soloists including mezzo-soprano Susan Graham. The Valero Classics Series will feature 14 classical concerts with fabulously exciting works by some of the most acclaimed composers ever, such as Brahms’ monumental Piano Concerto No. 2 performed by Garrick Ohlsson, Tchaikovsky’s final symphony, the “Pathétique,” Dukas’s The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, and the Poulenc Concerto in D minor for Two Pianos performed by piano duo Christina and Michelle Naughton.

POPS_Highlight_EadFrom Broadway to Hollywood, from showstoppers to heart-stoppers, this season’s Pops Series has it all! Associate Conductor Akiko Fujimoto will join forces with the San Antonio Symphony Mastersingers, Mariachi Campanas de America, Guadalupe Dance Company, sopranos Diane Penning and Capathia Jenkins, tenor Paul Langford, and guest conductor Troy Peters to bring audiences a diverse, energetic, and one-of-a-kind concert series. The H-E-B Pops season opens on September 23, 2016 with vocalists Diane Penning and Paul Langford in a program featuring popular songs from some of the chart-topping albums and it will conclude on June 11, 2017, with a jaw dropping aerial performance by Cirque de la Symphonie.

The San Antonio Symphony’s spring gala next season will feature Gil Shaham, one of the foremost violinists of our time, playing the Brahms violin concerto in this performance with the San Antonio Symphony led by Associate Conductor Akiko Fujimoto.

A ONE NIGHT PERFORMANCE WITH CHRISTOPHER CROSS

Five-time Grammy Award winner Christopher Cross makes his debut with the San Antonio Symphony for a special one-night performance. Hailed as one of the biggest musical icons of the ’80s, he virtually defined adult contemporary radio with a series of smoothly sophisticated ballads, including the lead single of his self-titled debut album, Ride Like the Wind, along with other Top 20 hits, Never Be the Same, Say You’ll Be Mine, Arthur’s Theme and Sailing. At this time, tickets are ONLY available for renewing subscribers to order.
