“G6-12 Discovery Concerts” are free-admission, educational field trip opportunities specifically tailored to students of middle and high school age, particularly those participating in school music programs such as band, orchestra, mariachi and choir. An extension of our award-winning Young People’s Concert Series for elementary students, G6-8 Discovery Concerts present symphonic masterpieces supported by engaging visual enhancements and TEKS-aligned concepts in greater depth and complexity so as to engage an active audience of students grades 6-12.
Intimidated in part by the shadow of his recently deceased countryman Ludwig van Beethoven, German composer Johannes Brahms took 21 years to complete his First Symphony. But he made it worth the wait; Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 is a revered masterpiece that both grows out of the tradition of Beethoven and forges a new path. Join us for an engaging performance and presentation supported by demos from the orchestra, conductor analysis and colorful visual enhancements. Together we will delve into this powerfully moving work and the genius behind it.
