NATURE SPEAKS IN MUSIC: BEETHOVEN’S SYMPHONY No. 6 “PASTORALE”

Saturday, Nov 10, 2018

8:00pm – 10:00pm

Sebastian Lang-Lessing, conductor
Lynn Harrell, cello

Peasants merrily gathering, a thunderstorm, a babbling brook: Beethoven creates a radiant soundscape in his “Pastorale” Symphony, interpreted by your San Antonio Symphony, under the baton of Maestro Sebastian Lang-Lessing. Weber’s dramatic Overture to Der Freischütz, the most important German opera of the Romantic era, opens the program and cellist Lynn Harrell performs the beautiful and shifty Cello Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major, Op. 107, by Dimitri Shostakovich. This highly virtuosic showstopper was originally written for Mistislav Rostropovich.
